Undoubtedly the program’s best work was Shostakovich’s magnetic, haunting Sonata in D minor Op 40. Andreas plays the 1707 ‘Boni-Hegar’ Stradivarius, which has been made available to him by the generous support of Norwegian art collector Christen Sveaas. One of the fractional cellos from Andreas' childhood is still in use by students at the Suzuki Institute in Copenhagen.

In 2015 he received the prestigious Carl Nielsen Scholarship.

Andreas Brantelid (born 8 October 1987) is a Swedish-Danish cellist. He had his concerto debut at the age of 14 playing Elgar's Cello Concerto with the Royal Danish Orchestra. In 2006 he won the Eurovision Young Musicians contest, representing Sweden, and the following year he was named DR Kunstner 2007 (Artist of the Year).
